Aids and adaptations
We want to provide homes where people really want to stay and sometimes this means making alterations to your home as your needs change. You or a member of your family may need an aid or adaptation to allow independent living.
Where it is evident that an aid or adaptation is required in relation to a customer's disability or poor or chronic health we will endeavour to respond by helping to adapt your home so that it meets your requirements enabling you to continue to enjoy your home.
We have an annual aids and adaptation budget. The scale of work required determines how we arrange funding. Simple work costing £1000 or under will be processed upon receipt of your application. However, work costing in excess of £1000 requires supporting written evidence from a specialist (e.g. Doctor, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, etc). In this instance a survey would need to be undertaken of your home to further process the application.
Major works such as extensions to your home may need to be funded via your Local Authority in the form of a Disabled Facilities Grant.

What is an aid?
An aid is portable healthcare, mobility or disability equipment and solutions may include the provision of equipment such as bath seats or walkers, advice on where equipment can be bought or support to find ways for you to carry out day to day activities.
What is an adaptation?
An adaptation is an alteration to allow you to gain access from the outside of your home and help you move around it independently. This could be alterations to any part of your home to make it easier for you or a member of your household to do everyday personal tasks.
