Homeless residents in Lichfield celebrated recently following a donation of welcome packs by ‘You Can’, Bromford's in-house good cause which raises funds to help customers and improve the quality of their lives.
The packs, donated to the homeless scheme ‘Edgeworth House’ in Lichfield, contain some essentials that new residents need to make moving on a little easier including tea, coffee, milk, biscuits, toiletries and cleaning items.
Marie Williams, Bromford service manager explains: ”Customers often come to us literally with just the clothes they are standing in so these welcome packs will make their stay a little more comfortable. Basic toiletries such as toothpaste, a toothbrush, deodorant and soap can help them feel so much better and boost their self confidence at this difficult time in their lives.”
Customers are referred to Bromford from Lichfield District Council, where they have been declared homeless through a number of reasons including relationship breakdowns, leaving care or because their tenancy with a private landlord has come to an end. The length of time that customers stay with Bromford can vary from just a couple of weeks to a year.
The money for welcome packs was raised by colleagues from across Bromford for ‘You Can’ which aims to provide the extras that statutory funding simply can’t provide.
Over the years colleagues across Bromford have shown that they have a passion for helping others and for making a difference and have taken part in coffee mornings, fun runs and sponsored walks, dressing up, singing carols and fashion shows. Last year colleagues got involved in a number of events including the Great Birmingham Run, a football tournament, cake sales, an Autumn fayre, curry day and much more to raise vital funds for the cause raising a phenomenal £10,000 in total. More events are planned for this year.
